Disclaimer and Proof of Age
Vintage
paperback books may be offensive to some people in our current climate of political
correctness. They were issued before this climate overtook the
country. Themes of many of the books and/or the covers are racially insensitive,
show violence to women, or show unsafe and /or promiscuous sex. The
themes may also show a negative stereotype of just about any group you can
name. Hooked on Books does not agree with the content of these
books, nor do we endorse these attitudes. However, these books are a
part of our history and our heritage. People do peruse them, whether for
study or other reasons. This is their right.
We
do have a category listed as Erotica. As we have not read the books, in some
cases this may be the content's true description based on today's
standards. Sometimes you will find that they contain less explicit scenes and
language than what you would see on most current TV prime time shows. Do
not order if you are under 18 or if these books may be illegal in your
jurisdiction. You must state and sign that you are 18 or older to purchase
anything marked as Erotica.
Your Source for Vintage and Collectible Paperbacks
We have almost 19,000 items on our data base and with a back log of 11,000 plus. The items that we have put on the website are from the backlog and we have only just began to put these on the inventory. If you don't find what you are looking for, please contact us or go to our store (Hooked on Books) at A Book Search through the link on the link page. We have from Asimov to Zelazny, from Albrand to Zubro. We do have available a search service.
If you are looking for a more recent Mystery or Science Fiction paperback, such as a cooking mystery or a fantasy, we may have it at our other location. We have separated out the vintage and collectible from our overstock for this website. We do however have many vintage and collectible paperbacks on our ABookSearch.com store but they do not have images currently available unless requested. The items on our ABookSearch.com store are a wide variety of genres and years.
We would like to start a Mystery/Science Fiction writers group . If enough
of an interest is shown we would divide it into two groups: one with a
focus of Science Fiction and one with a focus of Mystery. We would
publish articles written by the members of the group. These articles
must be educational, informative and will be juried by experts in the
field. After all we are trying to get people to enjoy and appreciate
vintage and collectible paperbacks. It can be on the artwork, on an
author, the publishers, on the changing interests of the public and how
it affected the publishing industry, etc. This could be your chance to
be critiqued by fellow writers and to be published by a website. If
you are interested, email us a sample of your work, what type of
writing you would like to do in the future, what you see yourself doing
in the next 5 years and why you think you would like to belong to this
group. You must have access to a computer and be computer literate.
We are proud to announce we will be putting on the paperback collection of the Science Fiction writer Juanita Coulson. The vintage and collectible will be put on the website while the remaining portion will be put on the other listing service. It will be a slow process as we are talking over 9,000 books! We have uploaded the first batch. I think you'll enjoy them- twenty two of the Phantom Detective series in very fine to mint condition. There are many more good books to come!
We will be presenting articles in the blog and in our storeblog on collecting and reading vintage paperbacks, including topics on authors and publishers, etc. Check out the one we had on Ace Doubles. We will attempt to be educational and informative while not being stuffy! Your help in keeping the information flowing would be appreciated. After all, knowledge is power so let's share the power!
